Day 1 of Art on the Rocks at Nocallula Falls was a test of patience and perseverance!
We set up while it was sprinkling and then the rain started! We had a steady stream of determined shoppers, and despite what has been one of the rainiest days in Gadsden in recent memory, we still managed to sell quite a bit, before gathering all of the printed goods into the non-drippy triangles of our easy-up tent and being pouty and sad.
Thankfully my dear friend Gilda showed up at just the right time, saw the despair and said, “I’m here! What can I do to help?!”
She jetted across the street to the trusty Dollar General and procured the 4 plastic bins that from now forward, will contain all I need for decorating and stocking my booth. She saved my inventory and I’m super grateful!
By the time 1:30 rolled around, I’d given up. My assistant had wandered off to puddle-jump, so I started drying and packing up my booth, and 15 minutes later, our event organizers made the rounds, offering a free do over the next weekend, or free registration at the spring 2022 event at this same location.
We came back again on September 25-26. For a crowd who mostly didn’t even know it was going on (with less than 25% of the original vendor roster), we did okay. We learned a lot about how the festival sales scene works, now we just need to find our art loving crowds. Behold the images below of our defeat, learning and victory.
